A feast and film for St. Patrick
The Phoenix Theatre held an early celebration for St. Patrick's Day on Saturday 11th of March. They showed the 1950s classic The Quiet Man, served an Irish-style buffet and had activities running throughout the evening.
The evening started just before 7:30 PM, and everyone was welcomed with a complimentary glass of Lucky Leperachon Punch.
Before the film started, all the audience members had the opportunity to mingle with everyone, and they had a couple of fun activities they could do, leading to them winning a prize. First, there was the infamous Maureen Reid's St. Patrick's Day Quiz that they could complete for the opportunity to win a bottle of Irish Cream, and they could kiss our very own Blarney Stone, where a pair of lips were chosen at random, and they would receive a prize of After Eights.
The doors were opened to welcome all into the cinema to watch the first half of The Quiet Man. Whilst the film was taking place our amazing volunteers and staff worked tirelessly cooking and prepping the Irish-style hot buffet for all audience members to enjoy in the interval.
The Irish-style hot-style buffet consisted of jacket potatoes, coleslaw, beans, corn beef, homemade soda bread, and crudities. It was rounded off with a dessert consisting of Guinness cupcakes, Irish cream lollipops and jelly.
The feedback that they have received about the evening has been brilliant, and they can not wait to be doing their next one!
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who organised and was working/helping Saturday night at the Irish themed evening with The Quiet Man film. My mother and I had an extremely enjoyable evening. We were both looking forward to seeing the film on the big screen and having an evening out. The whole evening went way and beyond our expectations and we loved every minute. The food was excellent and my compliments go to whoever made the cupcakes, they were delicious. It's hard to find local events for my mother with her limited mobility to attend but this was perfect and we will certainly look out for other films/events to attend.
Thank you all again.
