All aboard! As you were taken on a journey through Europe
The Phoenix Theatre welcomed Cliff Richard to their big screen for their Cinema Event of a Summer Holiday!
When you arrived, you had to visit the Ticket Office to check in and pick up your boarding pass, and the all-important passport so you can travel to many different countries. We then waited for all the passengers to arrive before we departed.
Before embarking on the bus, all passengers have the opportunity to mingle with others, and they could do a couple of fun activities, some of which lead to winning prizes! First on the packing list was Maureen Reid's infamous quiz, which all passengers could do right up till the end of the interval, as most of the questions related to the first leg of the journey in the film. All passengers received a token bus that they could keep, and they got to colour it in to make it look like the bus we were all travelling on.
At 7:30 PM the bus conductor was ready to welcome everyone onto their bus; they had their ticket punch ready to make sure no stowaways managed to get on board! Whilst the film was taking place our brilliant volunteers and staff worked tirelessly cooking and preparing the Greek-Style buffet for all the passengers to enjoy.
When the bus driver decided they needed a rest, the passengers could get off and stretch their legs and get their passports stamped for all the different countries they had visited, leading them towards the beautifully decorated Acropolis Taverna.
The Greek Buffet consisted of a wide range of food, such as kebabs, salads, humous, homemade semolina cake and homemade baklava. This was a feast that was fit for Cliff! All passengers then received their complimentary drink, either a Greek Roaring Tiger or Mythos Greek Beer.
After all the passengers were full to the brim, they boarded the bus one last time to watch the film's last half.
The feedback the volunteers and staff received on the night was out of this world, and people are sad that they have to wait till March 2024 for the next one.
I enjoyed the show on Saturday; it was a wonderful event enjoyed by all and I can not think of anything you could have done to improve the event.
Thanks and congratulations to ALL concerned with this cleverly organized production.
